I have 2 Redington AL reel (a 9/10 and a 7/8). I cannot remove the spools from the frame. They were both rinsed before storing and the release lever moves, but I cant budge the reel from the spool. The spools and drags all work, spinning freely. Any suggestions?

Bob- I ran into the same problem with the Redington reels I have. To solve it at least temporarily: remove the 2 small screws that hold the release mechanism in place- watch out for the small spring metal under the cap. After removing the cap you'll see the axle(spindle) in the cente of the spool.Working over something soft to catch the reel body, hold onto the spool and tap the spindle with the butt of a screwdriver. What happens is salt gets into the uni-directional bearing/shaft space and the bearing housing gets stuck. Once you gets the spool off apply alittle sewing machine oil or other light oil to the bearing and do this at least twice during the season or more depending on the amount of use the reel gets. This worked for me and others. This problem was discussed on another site and this method was the only one that seemed to correct the problem at least temporarily. Ron

Rel, Thanks for the tip. It worked like a charm! I thought that I was maintaining the reels properly, but from now on I will disassemble and lube more often. Thanks again, you saved the day.

Send them back to Redington - reputable reel companies will stand behind their products.
