So I have never caught a trout before and would love to give it a try. I live in Boston where would everyone reccomend me to go for trout or salmon? I was thinking about Wachusett but I'm open to ideas. I'd be willing to drive up to like 45-1 hr. I'm more of a saltwater guy so any help you can give me loc., bait/lure directions etc., would be GREATLY apreciated. Ahh what I wouldn't give to have a Laker in my oven....Thanks in advance!

Fly or Spin?Lots of places are stocked with trout that close by to you. If I were you I would venutrue out to Walden Pond in Concord. It is stocked, and an enjoyable place to fish and learn about trout fishing.

Have fun....

I use a spinning rod. I went to Walden pond when I was a kid know just where it is. What would be the best bait/lure to use? Is there a particular spot on the pond that would be best? Is there still ice on it? I have a kayak would that be a good place for it? Woah lots of questions....Thanks!

When I was younger and there was an opening day to the fishing season. At ponds we would use either worms or salmon eggs. Put a small spit shot on and use a small trout hook. Cast them out and wait. Rather than a split shot, a slider weight can be used. Now they also have various powerbaits that are effective.

Some people like to use small shiners suspended a couple feet under a float whiles others will rig them with the sliders on the boat.

Bring a good book to read while you wait.

I don't think it has been stocked YET. Maybe this week. I'm not even sure if its iced out yet. Anyone know?

Lots of places to fish, you can walk the entire perimter of the pond. Some folks stick to the beach, I like to find a spot where no one else is.

It is tough to beat Wachusett for lakers, especially given the new state record that came out of there last year. It is a contact sport sometimes in the first month of the season. The longer the walk the less people you will have to deal with.

In the early part of the season you can get them in close to shore, where as later on you have to hit the holes and typically need a 9+' rod to reach them. Using shiners/perch is always productive but a kastmaster or similar spoon will also work well. Good luck.

I heard that wachusett is iced over but there is a part that has a stream flowing into it. Have people been catching fish in it yet? Is there any fishable parts?

MA DFW 2005 Stocking Schedule (http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/dfwtrout.htm)

MA Pond Maps (http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/dfw_pond.htm)

Do you want to fish bait or lures? If bait, pumped up worms work well once the Trout smarten up to PowerBait. For lures, small gold spinner and spoons have worked for me.

JP is a little tough to fish sometimes but on windy rainy spring days when the runners stay home and the Browns turn on....

I don't really care what I use to catch them, just as long as I catch em. Yeah I saw that trout stocking report. Probably in the next couple weeks mor eplaces will be stocked ? Are there bait stores in the area? The jury is still out as to where I will fish this weekend....

Use a 5' - 7' Light to medium action spinning rod with 4#-6# test line. Use egg hooks size 8-12. Before tying on hook, run a sliding egg sinker 1/8 - 1/4 oz. onto line. After tying hook to line, place small split shot sinker about 16" above hook. Use Power Bait nuggets in chartreuse, rainbow, yellow, or orange. Roll in hand then place onto hook. Purchase rod/sand holder, PVC type often the best.

Cast, take up slack line, leaving a little slack for fish to run. Enjoy your limit.

Trout fishing will be good from shore until water warms above 60 degrees, predicted to be August 1 this year!

Trout are out. Our regional newspaper today showed pictures of the state stocking Long Pond in Plymouth. It was somewhat disgusting (typical of this paper) seeing so-called fisherman with rods literally standing behind the stocking trout.

Trout fishing is slow with the cold water. It is excellent by the end of April and well into early June.

Good Luck!
