Hi
I'm heading up to Nantucket the first week in July. I'm looking for a guide who fish out of a newer skiff that targets Stripers on the points and flats around Nantucket. I would prefer to use his gear (fly/spin/plug). I found one guide who fits the description but I would like to here who you all recommend.
Thanks

PC,
I have had many very sucessful trips with Tom Mleczko out of Madaket harbour. My first trip with him was in 1984 and he knows the island's fishery as well as just about any guide out there. I think if you do a search online under Captain Tom's Charters you should be able to locate him. I have been lucky enough to catch stripers, blues, and bonito from his boats. As well as blue and mako sharks on offshore trips if you decied to change up the pace a bit.
Good luck! :)
PS:There is a chance I will also be out there the first week of July if you want to giving the surfcasting a try. Feel free to drop me a PM.

Capt. Shawn Bristow is a Reel-Time guide out of Nantucket.

Thanks David
The guide I found on line is Captain Peter Sheppard. His website is Rusty Fly Fishing Charters. He's what I'm looking for - just wondering if anyone fished with him?
Does anyone know Pete?

PC,
I am not familiar with Pete myself. His website looks well put together. How long has he been guiding on Nanutcket? If he fits what your looking for then why not give him a try.

You might also try Jeff Heyer out of Crossrip.
There's a chance I'll be on the island the weekend after the 4th, so we
might be able to hookup for some "non-professional" fishing.

All the above mentioned are good choices.
You might also try Capt. Ken Panacek of KenCatch Charters.

I really want to fish out of a skiff ;)
Thanks
I fished with Pete twice, but not since 2001. He is a good guide. If flats/skiff fishing is what you're really interested in, he should be able to get you on fish, but that is challenging fishing and getting a fly to the fish will be up to you. I'm making some assumptions based on the comment that you will not have your own equipment (which may or may not be accurate), but if you're not a skilled caster in the wind, there are easier ways of getting fish on the fly in Nantucket than the flats, and you don't need a skiff to do it.
Good luck.

you might also try it on your own. Get up early and drive to the Smith's Point access. park your car at the ranger shanty. (in early July you cannot 4wd on Smith's). Walk to the bayside...you can fish all the way up to the end of Smith's on the inside....and fish all the way back on the ocean side. ;)
Don't forget to fish the rip at the point....

I would recomed Capt Tom Mleczko and Lynn and Jeff Heyer at Crossrip. I know they are all 'off island" at this time. Good luck

Here's my latest idea ... Fish with 2 different guides for 1/2 day charters.
My guides would be (IF AVAILABLE)
Tom Mleczko
Shawn Bristow
I figure this should give me a well rounded Natucket experience ...
What do you guys think ???

I'll be out the last 2 weeks of July. If you are still around I'd be glad to take you fishing. This will be our families 18th year vacationing in Madaket. --127-3- there's always good fishing somewhere around the island!..... by foot or by boat

I have fished with Jeffrey Heyer quite a bit and he is a phenominal flats guide. He fishes the florida keys as well as the nantucket flats. On calm days you will fish out of his technical flats boat (a backcountry skiff) and on windier days he will pole you on his robalo (still a flats boat, but handles the chop better). He is a great guy to spend the day with and will put you on quite a few bass to boot. He can be found at Crossrip.com. Good Luck!

I'd echo the Mlezsko recommendation. I spoke to him this morning so I know he's on island.

I fished with Capt. Pete Sheppard of Rusty Fly charters a few summers back. Definitely one of the my top 5 fishing trips of all time. Got some very large bass with him during a late August dusk trip that coincided with an incoming tide. Stripers were feeding on sand eels like crazy.......
Including Capt. Pete there was four of us (me, my dad and brother) on his Hewes 19' flats boat and that was such a big part of the fun. Since than he has added a custom Maine built 25' to his fleet too.
Definitely worth your time. I have fished with the 3 other guides on the island , but I enjoyed this trip the most.
