Talked w/ a local charter guy today. Getting lots of lakers 20' down....salmon are more scattered. I'd go w/ a 6" smelt pattern on a sinking line.....slow trolled. ;)

I was up this past weekend, all but myself hooked some lakers on streamers. Thats the way it goes sometime. Still great to get out!!!
Jim- Are you aware of any organization on Lake George that may be trying to increase the stockings/preservation of the fishery? (#$119)

The problem is the lack of forage (smelt). Lot's of lakers in the lake and they are voracious. They eat the smelt and I suspect they eat the smolt salmon too. (they all live at the same strata of the lake). NY DEC controls the stocking. It was somewhat successful in the 80's......we got allot more salmon and bigger ones too. One gets the feeling that the attitude is that it will become a laker fishery and less attention (and monies) have been targeted for the landlocks. Too bad.....lakers fight like a old shoe....even the big ones.
FWIW: they tried stocking rainbow trout/steelhead w/o much success also. although I did get a eight pounder in the late 70's. Haven't heard of many caught in the last 10 years.

Thanks for the info. It would be great to see if LG could be better managed. I have no experience/knowledge to the history of the stockings etc... Salmon & Rainbows would be great to see, perhaps even tighter regulations. Think it is possible?
PS-Smelt were still running on the Putnam side...
