View Full Version : Anyone fishing out east yet?
Weather permitting, I will be moving my boat from Montauk to the Peconic Bay this weekend, and was wondering if it should wet a fly line. Last year a local paper reported some schoolie action by this time. Anyone tried out there yet? Thanks.
I was on the east end last weekend but did not even bring a rod. Had some cocktails with friends to enjoy the sunset Saturday at Northwest Creek and there was no one fishing and things did not look too fishy (no visible bait, etc.). I have seen reports of a few schoolies on the ocean side at Georgica and Ditch Plains. . . . a week of nice weather makes alot of difference though, so I'll bet you can find some.

On 4/19, fished up the Peconic River east of the 105 bridge for a half dozen schoolies to 14". Prospected all over the joint for two hours with nothing to show for it and had to wait until after sunset for these fish. Did see some small bass feeding on top just before the sun went down and fooled one of them with a small gurgler but didn't land him. A Clouser did the trick and nothing like those first fish of the season. --125-3
FMW:
Weather did not cooperate, but I managed to get the boat to Port of Egypt on Friday evening. I'll speak to you soon about a Spring fishing trip.

I stopped by the ferry slip in North Haven and under the bridge in Sag Harbor tonight as these were places recommended to me (I've just moved out here) but nothing doing... but then maybe I was just not in the right spot!

Those are indeed the places. Any day now...
Saturday morning before the rains came in I had two schoolies at Bootlegger's Alley (near Crab Creek) on Shelter Island. Moved east out to Cedar's Point, then back west to the Race (North of Robbins Island), but caught nothing else and then got drenched. Supposed to be nice this Saturday, so hopefully things will have opened up a bit.
