View Full Version : Stillwater??
The place never fails to dissapoint me.....I've lived in or near Sterling for 25 years and time and time again I say "I'll give it one more try"...and it lets me down again.......then there is the trash lines banks.....makes me want to cry......first off, has that place been stocked yet? Sped

The Stillwater River was stocked the week of April 11th.

Fished the Stillwater on Saturday and managed to catch 2 nice rainbows on a muddler...they were a little excited in the rain. Ran into a couple of bait guys who said they caught ones that were too small to keep. This river should be FF Only Catch & Release. Who do you have to lobby with at the State to get this accomplished?
I'll second on the FF only and C&R........I'd love to see that........what a great place that would become.....no more styro worm containers.......no more having the pools emptied of trout within weeks of the truck stocking....no more powerbait containers.......I'd be happy to help with that cause......Just tell me what you want me to do..........Sped

As someone who does not really FF, I still have to agree. I really am tired of people leaving crap all over the place, it is our drinking water!!! The styrafoam worm cups, coffee cups, etc. is a joke, if you can catch and carry out 2+lbs of fish why not carry out a 2oz container. I really would like to see the DEP step up their rounds in the area, and make an example of people littering. A few $200 fines would hopefully wake people up. "You can't walk in the water, but feel free to throw crap around!"

PS. This goes for the people who leave their used fishing line laying around as well.

If people really want to pursue the catch and release idea on the Stillwater, might be worth contacting the Greater Boston TU group or the Worcester TU group to see what they might know about this. Sure would be a great way to improve the river itself as a fishery. I'd suggest and support FF only from the mouth up 1/4 mile north of the singing bridge. Let the worm dunkers fish the sections up closer to the airport.
