I gave the Wachusett a try in last Saturday afternoon's rain. I few hours of trying with small metals on the North Eastern shore yielded zippo, nadda, and zilch. Others I met had similar results.

Went a couple weeks ago and also got skunked, it has been a bit tough going unless you are there for most of the day. Went on Sunday to see if the smallies were in, but the wind she was a howlin. Had no luck. A friend of mine caught a 2.5lb rainbow there this past friday.
On a funnier (or sad depending on your view) note: While I was fishing w/ metal there was a father & son fishing w/ shiners on the bottom. They had the flag strike indicators on with no hits. The kid is getting bored (been there for 2 hrs) and decides he wants to try lures. He grabs a rod, takes off the indicator and starts to reel it in. It is pretty heavy like he has weeds, and the line is not moving side to side. Gets to about 5 feet from shore and there is a laker on the line, it finally decides to struggle. He ends up bringing in a 21+" 5lb laker. Doh!

Since my last report I have put in another 5-6 hours with the same results. I'm a glutton for punishment so I'll keep on trying.
The water level is WAY up.

Fished Wachusett Thursday morning and took a 22 inch laker on a leach fly.It can be a tough place to fish especially with the water so high. The thing that keeps me coming back is you never know what your going to hook into, and there's a chance it could be a real trophy fish.

I took the skunk yesterday as well but did see one small laker (12") caught. Also, at times, there was a decent amount of surface activity although none were interested in my assortment of metals or flies. The one I saw caught was on a shiner. Today, it's back to salt water.

Went to the Res. in the afternoon and caught a 17" laker on metal. There were two other guys there with shiners and only caught a catfish. I did "catch" something on a shiner, a loon. Was able to "drag" it in and with the help of one of the guys we were able to cut the line only about a foot from the bill, with the shiner and hook in it's mouth. It was not the least bit happy but did come back and was diving for food, so hopefully it spit the hook.
Also saw an otter in the water for the first time. So the totals were 1 trout, 1 catfish, 1 loon, 1 otter, and a few turkeys. Hopefully the smallies start to heat up soon.

Got skunked there last night. Sunday morning I did get one hit and it turned out to be a just barely state pin Calico 2# 3oz.
There have been some nice fish being caught on occasion. I heard a 16 # laker was taken out last week. And the week before I saw a guy with 2 lakers in the 24-25" range. But the kicker was he had a really nice landlock salmon in the 6-7 # range.
I'm still looking for those flag strike indicators if anyone comes across them please let me know where.
