Son fished Indian Head River last night. Dad had to work! Said fish breaking everywhere...threw all types of flies...to no avail! Another fisherman told him he had given up fly fishing there with no results. Now resorts to small Rooster Tails, Mepps, etc.

Anyone else had similar experiences there? Any suggested patterns for flies? And, what is the name of the pond above the river. Son said that fish were breaking there and it seems to hold trout. I always thought that pond to be a warm water, shad spawning area.

Thanks for the thoughts.

i've done very well there on a variety of nymphs and dry flies, the most abundant insect on the river by far is the caddis, also the shad and herring are in, so that may be a lot of the "rising" fish your seeing...also try fishing a two fly set-up with an elk hair caddis and an emerger on a dropper. if you go to the canoe launch down the side st near the fish ladder, you can cross and fish the river all the way to the bridge, its can be tricky wading in a few places, but its usually uncrowded and you have a good shot at shad, brook, brown, tiger trout and even the occasional herring....good luck.

The name of the pond is: Ludom Ford Pond, There is a sign at the entrance to the parking lot on the Hanover side. As far as I know this actually part of the Indian Head River. The river keeps going out the other end and the state stocks further up. I saw some black stoneflys last week.
