Went out yesterday(Sunday)for about 3 hours on the kayak. The water was somewhat dirty from all the rain the night before but I marked a lot of big fish down deep so I used very fast sinking line with a big bunker fly but couldn't get the fish to take the fly. So I tried closer to the shoreline and it paid off with 6 stripers no keepers size all released. Lot of bunker around but not schooled up yet. Here's a pic of 1 of the fish:

This is what I also saw in J-Bay last Friday. Kinda frustrating (#$119)

they were on Herring today busting on the surface for hours. Frank Cressitelli was there as well with Dave Skok, Dave Fallon and friend and my client Pete Kelso got over 50 fish. a few keepers but mostly 3-6 pounders. really killer day and a total suprise to see the Herring, fish and birds crashing around!! will post photo when I extract one- I am beat and I wasn't the one fishing
. . . Great. I'm actually not all that surprised to see them busting on herring. I've seen some reports about people still catching herring and don't know why there can't be a spring run on herring as well as the fall run. 2 years ago in Montauk in late May or early June there was schools of fish under birds chasing the juvy herring/large anchovies that showed up off Montauk this fall in mid-November.
