I'm currently looking at buying a pioneer 186 cape Island, formally known as BoneBoats. I was wondering If anyone knows where to find some unbiased info or a current owners opinion of the boat. The hull is definitly an eye catcher, and the fit and finnish is wonderful. I realize their are not many out there, but I'll bet someone who frequents this site knows of the boat.
thanks, jim

Do a search on thehulltruth.com. Pioneer has a great reputation for a new company. Don't know about boneboats. (#$119)

I know a guy looking to trade his boat. Please see his description below. I would be happy to forward you pictures as well. It's a nice looking boat, but I know we don't have a buyer of it in our market. We are located on the west end of Lake Erie. The current owner of the Bones Boat is considering moving up to a Contender. Knowing someone might be interested and and at what price level may help make the deal move along.
The Bone was kept in the fresh water on Champlain. By way of history, the designer of the Bone was the designer for Hatteras Yachts, disenfranchised when they sold to Brunswick, opened a facility in Mt. Pleasant, SC and popped a few patented hulls. Quickly, he was pursued for a buy-out by a number of builders. Roy McSwain of Pioneer in SC bought him out. If you look at the Pioneer web site you will see the Cape Island 18.6” which is the Bone. Jean Marc incorporated the Carolina flair bow with a shallow draft (12-14”) for fishing both bay and flats, which it does with great aplomb. I placed a 200hp Yamaha on the stern and she will take you to any fishing spot in a hurry. There is not a mark on the hull and the skeg on the Yamaha has not had any paint worn off from use.
