View Full Version : Huge half-half ???
Anyone think a huge half-half would work as a Herring pattern? I tied up a few the other day.
4/0 TMC 600SP hook
3 white schlappen on either side of shank (tied near dumbells)
Deep see aluminum dumbell eyes 3/8" diameter
Grey Yak hair
It's bout 6 inches long
May be a bear to cast though :)

As long as you can get it out there, can't see why what you've described couldn't do the job. I guess your not tying a traditional pattern, (hi/low) because you want to get the fly down more?
down and big!!!
may be a better pattern for boat fishing
I'll try it this afternoon

Sounds like it would work like a charm. Just don't try cast it tomorrow in the 40 knot breeze.
I've already had the pleasure of burying a tarpon hook in my elbow!!!
That big @$$ fly would knock me over!!!!!

Hi Ray,
What you describe should work just fine. Can you post a picture of the fly you describe? Always nice to see what we are discussing.
Here's a 9 or 10 inch herring clouser. Scares me to death if I try to do more than chuck it and dump line but it gets down there.
