There's still lot's of big stripers in the bay. I spooked a lot of them today while on my kayak on the flats. The bad news you must go thru lot's of bluefish and flies to get to them. Bluefish in the 10+lb range, a great fight on a fly rod from a kayak but most bluefish were 3-4 pounds. When you can get away from the bluefish paddling from flat to flat you can find schools of stripers from 18-32inches easily willing to take a fly.

Can you recommend a good point for putting in the kayak. I have fished off the kayak on the east end but would love to explore J-bay that way.
Andreas.

FLOYD BENNET FIELD has a boat launch ramp with plenty of deeeeep water and flats in the area. But you will need to get a $50 permit to launch there and it's worth it.
Also you can launch from the Canarsie Pier area where there's plenty of nice areas to fish from there.

Hey Stan - my buddy and I fished J-Bay in our Kayaks on Monday evening with an exceptionally high tide (full moon). You are dead on with the "bluefish" as they are THICK as heck out there and it was next to impossible to get away from them that night. We launched from Cross Bay Blvd. and tried all around the area but could not evade the 'wolves'. Up to 10lbs. on light tackle with each of us landing nearly 40+/-. Only 1 bass was pulled on a darter casting from a musslebed on the outgoing tide around 12am. All in all the evening was calm out there with the moon high, but the bass were just not around for us.
