My husband and his friend were planning to haul a boat down to Buena Vista from Washington State. Yuck! I think they'd be better off flying down and renting a boat for their two month stay. Is there a place that rents boats for long-term? The house they'll be renting comes with an 11 foot aluminum boat, but I think that's too small for any fishing. Also, I've never been to L. Barriles or Buena Vista (have been to Rancho Leonaro and loved it). What is that area like and how do the two places compare and/or differ?
Thanks much!

Not really but I suspect that you could get a very reasonable price for a panga in La Ribera from one of the pangeros on the beach. You didn't mention what time of year you are planning the trip which would also make a difference in the cost.
For inshore the 11 ft. would work fine to fish along the rocks and beaches for roosterfish, jacks, pompano or even dorado.
Rancho Leonero is somewhat more remote and less crowded with no services other than the Hotel.
Rancho Buena Vista and Los Barriles pleasant communities offering a full range of services.

Thanks for the information. My husband spoke with his buddy about the prospect of buying a boat, then selling it before they leave, but that didn't go over too well. I saw a nice boat for sale down there, but it was $20,000. Too much! So, what's your best guess what a panga would go for? I'm thinking if they can get something for $2-3,000 then that would be worth considering. The owner of the house they'll be renting has a caretaker who may have a panga that could work.
Thanks much!
