I've got a family trip planned to Maui next spring (my first). A google search brings up very limited fly fishing in Hawaii generally, and nothing on Maui. Any suggestions for guided fly fishing on Maui? Or, any local fly fishers that might be willing to share suggestions?
Thanks!

I don't know any inshore guides on Maui. Try contacting Nervous Water Fly Fishers on Oahu, they might know someone.

Hawaii has some huge bonefish.... it's a quality place not a quantity place. you may only see6 or 7 and hook one. but if you land it , it will be 6 pounds plus.
A friend was dunking pieces of squid in front the HHV hotel in Waikiki last week before sun up. Seven strikes, and he was only able to landed 2 of the fish. A 6 and a 7 pound bonefish. As soon as the sun came up everything quit biting. He was using spinning tackle and a kayak.
Aloha,

Nervious waters is a good place to start. You will want small patterns( christmas island specials, gatcha's and small clouser variations. Pink and orange worked well for me, and chartruise is always a stand by as well as natural brown and white combinations. I only cought one bone, but I cought numerous other reef fish. Don't lip anything that looks like it has a beak, lip the trumpet fish don't grab them, they have a nasty slim layer that smells reallt bad, the bones will cut you off on the coral, and the black tip sharks will some times try and steal your catch. There really arent typical flats, you kind of waid the reefs at low tide. You definently want good waiding boots(coral) be carefull it is easy to get 200-400 yards off shore during low only to rise quickly at the turn, and if you see a tiger shark get out of the water imedately. have fun

I found a guy on Big Island that catered to the inshore with light tackle & the Fly. When I was in Oahu, I stayed with a friend from Diamond head we went out in Canoe and trolled some of my flies. I ended up getting a Barucuda while cathcing a buzz....lots of fun

Fly fishing on Maui is tough. No fly fishing guides that I know of. I have been with a great shore fishing guide, PM me and I'll send you his info.
