I took out my fishfinder for the first time last week and the transdurcer doesn't appear to be working. The model is a Bottomline 1200. It has power and apparently reads the water temp but no depth reporting. I say apparently because it read high 50s which seemed reasonable for the water I was fishing and did change a few degrees during the time I had it on. I mounted it inside my kayak so I thought that might have been the problem but to test it I hung it in the water outside my kayak and nothing. Any thoughts?

Have you gone through the troubleshooting section of the manual? Called Bottomline tech support?

Does the unit have a simulator mode? Most unit is run without a transducer plugged in will switch to this mode. This at least will tell you that the head unit is basically working.

If that is good, turn off the unit, plug the transducer back in and try it out. If it doesn't work (outside the hull for troubleshooting), then you may have a bad transducer.

Thanks for the thoughts. I think it is just dead. I bought a new fishfinder as the transducer cost was more than buying a reconditioned model that was on sale at Cabela's. In fact, the same model brand new was the same price at Cabela's (on sale) as the transducer so no point just buying the transducer.
