I was in the Harbor 2 weeks ago heading home when my engine (90 hp Etec with 60 hrs) crapped out. After getting the Sea Tow ride (don't leave home without it!) I took it to 3A marine and left it there while I went on vacation. I got back and they told me the fuel injector was bad and was replaced. They also said it was the first failure of this type they had seen in an Etec. Anyone else have any similar stories, or am I just unlucky?

I had one die on me at about 80hours on my E-Tec 90. I still made it back after cutting short a charter on two (and occasionally three) cylinders. Here's what I know about the topic: The injectors are electronic, if you look at them you'll note that each is inside a metal cone. The electrical pulse at the back of each injector is what provides the precise jet of fuel at the right moment for the best burn. Occasionally one will malfunction, they're covered under warranty. My mechanic simply replaced the unit and I was up and running again. At first I was a bit worried since my gear is in commercial service and I was losing business, but since then I've logged an additional 500+ hours on that engine without a similar problem...

I'm surprised that one injector would shut down your engine, mine continued to run on two cylinders so I was able to limp on home --a distance of more than 15 miles... Sounds like more than just an injector if you needed to be towed.

I have 275 hrs on my etec 90 and have had no injector problems.

My motor would start but as soon as I put it into gear it would stall. It ran "****ah" today...
