I was told early on to clean my line. I didn't. Now my lines are starting to get as sticky as spaghetti. Am I fine just using a dish detergent soap or does anyone have another recommendation? I'd by the prepackaged stuff but it just looks like window cleaner.

Thanks

Scientific Anglers puts out a two component product that I use. Clean the line with a damp mildly abrasive sponge, then apply a liquid to restore the finish. In a pinch I've used dishwash detergent to clean line. I know a guy who uses Woolite. Glide is another product to restore the finish. Some guys use Amorall.

I use ZipCast and like it a lot. Usually do one water wipe down with a paper towell, then the zipcast wipe down. Maybe once a month if the lines dry out. If they stay wet all month then I just leave them alone. Anyone actually have soap break down thier line? I can never tell if my cleaning has anything to do with line cracking and spacing but I have several that take a topn of abuse and lasted 2 or 3 years without finally cracking up with zipcast.

My regular line is an ancient Airflo, that owes my nothing. It refuses to die. For that past two seasons I've been cleaning it with those Armorall disposable wipes. After each cleaning, it's as slick as goose crap, and throws effortlessly, with no apparent ill effects to the line. :brow

I love my Sci-Anglers lines but they definitely crack and separate too often. This is too bad. But the good news is that if you send them back to the company they will replace them.

I more or less rinse my lines in water or soapy water after a weekend of use or after an individual use if on a weekday. I like doing it sort of like boat owners like fiddling with their boats. It is a good way to end the weekend and then catch the ferry.

I want to try these other products though. Where can you buy zipcast?

Mild soap .....not detergents.....I have been told that many of the newer lines will lose there "slick coating" if detergents are used.....I use Sci anglers product......does a good job......thinking of experimenting with armor-all....

My nephew inquired of the correct cleaning method. I wryly responded:"pull the line off into your stripping basket. Douse liberally with lighter fluid, slosh around for a minute then let sit for 10 munutes. Then chunk in a lit match..............the little remaining lighter fluid and the gooey stuff on your line will burn off in a second or two".

The idiot did it! Of course we all know what happened to his flyline.

His father called and bawled me out! I held my tongue................Boy! I sure wanted to comment on having a son that damned dumb but I kept my big mouth shut.

The poor kid will be a freshman at Texas A&M this fall............appropriate!

Neices and nephews don't call me Uncle Buck for nothing!

I use wd-40, leaves no residue and line is slick. Put some on a piece of cloth and pull line thru.
