View Full Version : Licensing
Does anyone know if a freshwater (Mass.) is needed to fish for shad in the Palmer upstream of Route 6? I didn't think so, but I have heard various thoughts on this.

It's my understanding that a licience is not needed until your above the firt damn ( I.E> Shad Factory). Below that is considered Salt. In truth, the tide still has a very pronounced effect on the river a mile or so past the rt 6 crossing.

In most cases, once on the inland side of the first bridge, you need a license
Have researched this question on behalf of Arthur Burton et al - tidal influence is recognized to Shad Factory Dam. Any questions should be addressed to Pocasset DMF office, as they have answered this as noted above.
