What type of fish are you hoping to target? Northern Belize is better for bonefish/tarpon while Southern Belize is the place to go for permit. Northern Belize has more tourism while Southern Belize is more remote.

my target fish has fins and will take a fly,i'm not picky.
my hope is to find a good location as a starting point that can be expanded in future trips.
i know from my own experiances that if i was to be asked "knowing what i know now" what would i recommend? my answere would be a more knowledgeable one then when i was a "rookie".
i have found out that any and all information can help in everyway.
i'm still digging for info.so please keep responding. thank you!

Welp.. I'd say spend some time in Ambergris Caye,
and some time in Caye Caulker. There are guides
in both places. Both offer different atmospheres.

Tons of activities in Ambergris/San Pedro for the
wife.. tons of laid-back socializing in Cay Caulker.

After getting a guide for a day (in either place) you
sould be "good 2 go" for DIY fishing the rest of
your trip.

Bottom line.. post pix (fish, not wife)! <hehehehe>

Cheers,

Uncle 4

I went to Ambergris on New Years a few years ago. There are great guides there and they are not as expensive as other areas like Florida and Bahamas. There are some excellent backcountry lagoons and mangrove channels with bonefish and tarpon. You can also fish the beaches for bonefish but your timing has to be right. Great snorkeling, laid back folks, and range of accomodations from reasonable to absurd.
