Schoolie action in Greenwich Bay (RI) can be good evenings just before dark. Fish are bright but no lice. Sunday and Monday eveing were strong; action cooled for Tuesday, perhaps due to the passing rain. Slow again last night mid-bay but perhaps active along the north shore (Apponaug to Oakland Beach). Action was had on curlytails, swimmers and poppers. One guy had a nice fish of 26" or so on a popper and the fish put on a very showy fight. Flyrodders are starting to air it out. Overheard one report of 20 schoolies one evening on the flyrod.
Saw an impressive school of silversides last evening, creating nervous water as the lure came through. It was already too dark to judge the individual size of the bait, but I'm guessing 3-4" spawners (?). Water temps are reported to be 43-47 degs and I believe it; this warm-up should work wonders.
Any word on a new moon (5/4) worm hatch in Ninigret, Pt. Judith or Potter's??? Wondering if it's worth a trip, or hold off till the full moon tides of 5/18 or so. I heard there was a decent charge of schoolies into C'town Breachway last week, so I'm thinking the next couple evenings may be good. also, I heard a report that the worms were active two weeks back before there were bass around to enjoy them. Any reports would be appreciated.
