Hi eelman,
I just got done fishing the outgoing tide at the Narrow river and got my first keeper of the year. I'm not sure if I wanted to prove to myself that there are bass big enough to swallow live herring on the south shore or what but THERE ARE FISH BIG ENOUGH TO SWALLOW LIVE HERRING ON THE SOUTH SHORE. The fish was 31" and yes I did measure it and it also put up one hell of a fight in the ripping current. A freind of mine told me he has been catching keeper size bass at the Charlestown breachway for the past two days. No decent bass until May 15?????

Are you refering to the narrow river in Narragansset RI?

If you are is the gate open to the parking lot by the cabana's? Is it open 24 hrs or is it closed a certain time?

Jim,
Yes it is the Narrow river in Narragansett.
If you are refering to the gate at the Dunes Club it is open. I haven't tried going in there, I usually only go in when there is a guard at the shack to let me in. I have been fishing at the bridge on rt. 1a. You can park right at the river, it makes it easier to fish live herring. I did fish the mouth of the river on Saturday without any luck. I accessed the river via the Narragansett town beach. Due to the long walk I used artificials that day. I think live herring is the way to go right now in the Narrow river because the herring are swimming upstream to spawn at the pond at Guilbert Stuarts. The herring are very thick there right now, you can get the 24 allowed in about 5 minutes.
