Fish question, what is it?

When we were leaving from Pocasset yesterday am, we saw what we could best describe as a "fresh water perch" looking fish, appx 6 inches long, loitering around the mooring ball ???? any ideas?
There was a HUGE amount of bait in Robinsons, but, just caught small stripers and blues late yesterday.

Rudderfish. A small jack that drifts up to Yankeeland in high summer and haunts buoys.
