We're heading to Eleuthera in the beginning of November. I'm wondering what opportunities exist for species other than bones? I've read spotty reports of tarpon in the south and various reef fishes on the Atlantic side. Does anyone have and suggestions or experience with other fish there?

Been there once....but...I did some blind casting around the Coral heads on the Atlantic side in several places. Went some time before getting the same species twice. Lots of weird stuff on the coral heads (jacks, grouper, snapper, grunts, needlefish etc.) within an easy roll cast from shore in the surf line. I was using a 9wt with 10 lb leaders (chart over white clousers) and it was a battle with some of the jacks to keep them of the coral. Never did pick up a Cuda but saw plenty.

I've fished Eleuthera a couple times. Aside from the bonefish, I didn't run into all that many other species. I did see some large cudas in Winding Bay one day.
Another time, I got into a bunch of these small "permit-like" fish on the airport flats. The name escapes me at the moment, but I think they were a close cousin to a pompano. They were about 10-12" long, fought like hell. They were suckers for a Borski Slider.
The only other thing I could offer is right in Governors Harbor. In the area right next to the main road (Queen's Hwy) there's some coral ledge, and some old pilings sticking from the water. I took some small (12-15") groupers there one day on small plastics. They are delicious by the way. :brow

Thanks for the information. I'll pack a heavier rod, sinking line and clousers. I'll post some pics when we get back.

The name you're looking for is Palometa. They school in shallow water and are very curious around divers and snorklers. Haven't caught any but I've seen a great many in Exuma.
