Going to Isla Mujeres in March and thought I'd spend a couple of days in Isla Holbox as well. Has anyone fished any of these places?? Any info at all?

Thanks

Tony,

Opportunities are very limited on Mujeres if you're looking for shore fishing. Most of the shoreline falls within a national park where fishing is not allowed, having said that I doubt anyone would stop you if you're away from the tourist areas. Most of the shoreline is rocky with the exception of Playa Norte, I've heard reports of a few bones around that area but it would have to be a VERY early morning thing as the tourist hordes arrive early. I caught smallish 'cuda from shore a few years back & there are plenty of pangas available that will take you past the 'no fish' zone to troll for 'cuda. It's pretty primitive though. There's a store that sells tackle to the right of the ferry dock as you come off the ferry so you might want to enquire there. I think there is supposed to be a population of resident tarpon that hang around the lagoon south of town down towards the navy base.

The other option is Isla Blanca which is not too far away by boat. Bones tarpon & snook supposedly but I've never done it myself.

Hope this helps.
