I was wondering what other folks do with cars keys, etc. to keep them dry and on your person. Also, those of you who wear glasses. What do you do to keep them attached to your head in the event that you swamp or get dunked by a wave?

REI carries a bunch of bigger "dry bags" and smaller dry pouches for wallets etc. Kinda like heavy duty non-disposable ziplock in a few shapes(mainly flat and cylindrical.) They were originally designed for kayaking, etc., but work for everything. Many are transparent, which is great. I bought mine for sailing, but just dug them out to start using more for fishing(actually triggered by MarK C's mishap earlier this summer, and the importance of having cell and radio dry.)

I use a medium, 10" by 21" or something like that... Had the same bag for 3 years now. Previously lasted 2 years. I have yet to full it , just for stuf like flares, camera, phone, keys, leader material, etc. Nothing bulky.

If you have a car with a remote lock/alarm system, might I suggest keeping that remote off the water, or at least a spare in the car so when you unlock the car with the key and the alarm starts waking up the neigborhood you still have a working remote to shut it off. At the very least put it in a separate bag or a pelican box that you are not going to go in and out of on the water. Water finds a way in when wet hands go it to grab stuff and the last thing you need is an alarm you have to yank wires on.

Dry bags work the best. Don't get a dry box unless your going to put it inside of a dry bag.

The SubTitle to this post was:

We both crashed and burned in the surf when we were returning to the beach

What Ruge said - no dry bag is dry if you have to open it on the water, and trying to start a car with alarms ringing is fun for others to watch. Leave the remote behind, in the car, or get a small dry bag that you never open out there on the water.

Whatever you do, don't rely on the center hole in some SOT kayak models - it's a trick, a trap, and whatever you put in there becomes your 'passive bilge pump system'.

Joey and I use a mix of dry bags and pelican dry boxes. So far, our luck has been very good with both
