I put in at Black beach around 6:30 Sunday am.. The signs looked good, bait & birds. Fished along the rocks on both sides of the cove nothing. Paddled over to Coolidge point and picked up a mid 20" fish in the wash. That was it for there. Paddled up to the harbor and checked further along the coast for action. Nada. Trolled back and had a hit. Unfortunately, I didn't tie a very good blood knot on the tippit, which promptly came undone. I paddled some more and was looking around when I heard a commotion behind me. Finally the birds were going nuts so I paddled over and started casting. After a few casts I noticed there were no breaking fish but a large raft of cormorants that were splashing around. I kept casting but no joy. It looked like the gulls were working the cormorants.
As I was paddling in I went through a slick and could see a huge school of bait but couldn't see anything chasing it. Stopped and threw the fly, popper, atom popper and rubber. Again no joy. Too much for me at this point. Went in aand as I was loading the yak I could see another group of birds working. A boat had coasted in to them but I couldn't tell if he was hooking up or not. Off the water at 11:00.
I'll be out again on Tuesday. Hopefully with the storm coming up they'll start to feed again.
