Hit my favorite North Shore spot Sunday am.. Apparently, judging from the crowd, the place had been pretty hot. I didn't go Saturday given the forecast but from what I heard from Joe & Lefty and others the conditions weren't that bad and the fishing was hot. At any rate I launched into small breaking waves with no trouble and paddled out. Sat in front of Crow Island and started casting but nthing going on.Sitting there you could feel and smell that the place had fish and something was going to happen. Well it did but it wasn't an all out blitz. Fish would come and go down and change locations very quickly. I started paddling to where the fish and birds were and they'd be gone. I wound up sitting and waiting for them to appear which they eventually did. Threw the trusty crease fly and had a solid hit. A nice respectable fish in the mid to high 20s. By the time I got that fish in the school had moved on. I waited some more and got bored so Paddled around the corner towards Graves Beach and saw a lot of birds and a lot of yaks. Headed over and the fish were in the wash. You had to stay back as the shore break was pretty big and cast towards the beach. I didn't do to well doing this but others looked to be hooking up regularly. I paddled out to the Island and started fishing there and hooked up to a nice fish. At first I thought it was a good striper as it gave a respectable run but not a very fast one then it headed to the bottom and started the head shakes finally got it to the boat and a nice Blue. Looked around for my pliers and remembered they were still hanging on the bench. Now what? The blue answered that question quickly as he finally sawed through the tippet. Final Tally for Sunday was several stripers and blues plus one gull that flew into my line as I let it fly.
Today I hit the same area and found a wall of fog. Funny it looked nice in Haverhill when I got up. I stood there looking and listening to a lobster boat cruising around in the soup when I see a fasmiliar yak come in. It's Lefty. I went down and talked with him and received the " ya shoulda been here yesterday" line. The place was Lit up with Big Bass and Blues. OooKaay, it could happen today too. I launched and stayed as near the rocks as was comfortable as it was knarly once you got out in the open. A very rough chop. The Walden handled it nicely though so I ventured further but no joy. I got cut off twice so I threw a small piece of wire on but that was no help as I didn't get another bump the rest of the morning. Didn't see much going on anywhere once the fog had lifted. I paddled in and hit the road making a detour into Magnolia and following the road around the point. The only action I saw was the cormorants right up in the rocks in the cove after the point. A lot of birds flying but didn't see any fish action in the water. I debated on taking a cast but decided to head for the barn for a much needed nap before going to work tonight.
I probably won't get out agagin until next week as I'm heading for New York to watch the Yankees go into first place, just funnin ya boys. I even thought of bringing a rod with me and hitting Bobby Moses beach or Jones but timing won't be good.

Nice to meet you Bunker, I was out there Sunday in the yellow T120. I too found it frustrating chasing busting fish in the yak. I ended up doing my thing and trolling the rocks with great success. I think we all need to realize that there are alot of fish out there right now, and just like all summer long, just because we don't see fish actively feeding on the surface, doesn't mean there isn't nice fish hanging out. Its easy to think that because there are hordes of fish surface feeding that they will hit anything. I have had bluefish being selective recently. Hard to believe, I know. I was surfcasting to a surface blitz and no one was hooking up. I removed my steel leader and went to a smaller plug and I hooked several nice blues, while others went fishless. My suggestion is go to your favorite spot, and fish, odds are there are some really nice fish there this time of year. If the surface feeds come you way, take what comes to you. Take care. Gary

It was good meeting you as well. Along with everybody else out there Sunday.
You're right. I'll probably stop chasing and stay fishing unless it's a major all out blitz. Then I'll probably be to excited not to go run & gun.
I'm heading out again tomorrow. Who needs sleep? Hopefully the wind will die down a bit.
