bunker

Decided to forgo sleep and hit the coast this am. Arrived at 6:30 am. to find flat seas and few birds. Hmmmm. Not a good omen. Put in at Blacks beach and paddle to the rocks on the right and threw a half/half clouser. Nothing. Trolled across the cove to the rocks on the otherside and started casting again nothing. I made a good effort on both sides. Throwing into the rocks , parallel to the rocks and out to open water and back. Nothing. Paddled further along the rocks towards Graves and right in front of me several slurps and splashes, threw the clouser and I'm tight. Nice fat 25" fish. Made several more casts into the area but nothing doing. Moved along and ran into them again with the same result. Same size fish and only one.
Time for a change so I headed to the small island in front of Graves and paddled around the outside fishing as I went. I marked a ton of bait and a ton of fish but could only entice one to hit. It felt like a good fish. I say that because as I got it coming up the hook pulled. Got around to the other side and saw birds working the cliff rocks towards the right of singing beach. Paddeld over and of course by the time I got there they were down. Started casting anyway. Nothing. The water was clear and I could see the bottom. I also could see fish cruising into the rocks and back out again. Most were in the mid 20" class but there were several pigs mixed in. Threw the book at them. Clousers, DNA bunker, EP flies deceivers using both intermediate and sinking lines, nothing.
Finished the morning by paddling back on the inside of the island and getting out on the small bar between it and the beach and casting from there with no joy. As I paddled back I could more fish cruising beneath me. From their behaviour they didn't think much of me and the yak. They'd get about 3 ft from me and either pick up speed and cruise under or do a 180. With the water clarity I'm not surprised.
The fish are there in large numbers and I'm sure they'll turn on. It would've helped my cause if the tide was better. Fished the last of the low and the beginning of high. I think when the water comes up they become more active in that area.
No fishing this weekend as I'm off to the big apple to watch the Yanks pull even farther ahead.
Tight Lines.
