Ok guys, I just moved here on the beautiful Boca Ciega bay in south pasadena. My own personal dock --127-3- heheh Boy and I happy. Anyways I just started fishing with headless shrimp and cut squid. Caught a few grunts, red drum and a fish no one can identify. Nothing major. At night I can see what I think is either snook or cobia under the dock and lots of sheepshead.
I am willing to catch anything and everything. Are there not any sailcats out here ?
What are the best times to fish ? and what with.
Please help , oh and by the way no dead fish around this parts from the red tide. Water looks nice and smells normal.
PS. What about crab pots ?
Thanks in advance :-%

Snook, or "linesiders" are easy to recognize. Like big handpick live shrimp, pinfish & whitebait on a #2-#2/0 hook. Sheepshead like shrimp & sandfleas & crabs on a #2-4 hook. Should be plenty of sailcats unless the red tide sent them elsewhere. Just about everything in the water eats LIVE shrimp, just pinch the tail off for more scent; but I have more fun with a flyrod & imitations of live bait ! Anytime is a great time to fish, some of the higher & lower tides may produce better fishing because the water is moving faster therefore carryiing more bait ! :-%

Thanks for the reply.
Well I tried some head on shrimp and caught about 25 fish , pins, reds and several cats. No sail cats though.
Just watching those huge sheepshead swimming around my dock is driving me nuts. I got some frozen sandfleas and gave them a shot. Well, I could see them going for the bait then at the last minute see ya. Guess they noticed it was dead.
I wont give up , how about using chicken feed ???

Glad you had a good day of catching a few. If you haven't tried Fluorocarbon ( maybe #25 lb. test ) leader material, now might be the time ! If the frozen sandfleas were boiled first, they would have an orange color. To get live sandfleas just go to the beach at waters edge & ; with a sandrake or "scoop" ; just dig them out of the wet sand . You also might be looking at black drum instead of sheepshead. See if they have a beard under the lips ....and lastly; pinfish are EXCELLENT baitfish for snook, reds, trout, etc. More fish for hotc  hick

The only way you're gonna catch those snook under the dock is fooling them into thinking you are not there!
That begins with NOT even stepping onto the dock when casting a shrimp to them. Try to skip a bait under the dock where they hide--then hold on!
It's best to hook you shrimp just below the barb on thier head--so that they will stay alive.
Let us know how you do!
Good Luck!
