I am new to this forum and I hope you can tolerate me util I learn the ropes. My family will be in Ft. Lauderdal from March 26, 06 until April 2. I am looking for an opportunity for myself, my son and son-in-law to do some flats fishing. Is there anyplace within an hour or so drive time where we can go? Do we need a guide? Know a guide? All I know of bone fishing on the flats I learned on TV. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated

You can fish for bones down in Baiscayne Bay which is about an hour away although I do not that thosw ill be ideal months. Capt. Bob Lemay posts on this board and fishes those waters I'm sure he will chiem in. You should note that those dates could present awsome offshore apportunities for light tackle sailfish, kingfish, dolphin with an early shot at some blackfins and wahoo as a possibility. You might want to look into an offshorelight tackle charter. Lucky27 (Gil) post on here and runs out of Miami which is 30-40 minutes from Ft Lauderdale.

The peacock bass fishing should be fine in south Lauderdale canals & lakes down thru Miami if the weathers not too good for the flats; as another option !

Thanks for the response. I fished the canals west of Lauderdale last year. Got one Peacock and what I think was a small tarponabout 25-30 inches. Never got it out of the water before it broke off. The height of the banks and brush made it kind of difficult to fly fish. I think a small boat would help. The flats sound interesting if the season is right. Does it start earlier farther south in the keys? We get one day for this adventure and then have to babysit while the girls get their day so we want to make the most of it.

Thanks again,
