Am trying to put together a vacaton with the wife in January. I live on the North East coast. Would like a spot that my wife would enjoy, and not feel guilty for leaving her to hit the flats. Interested in bones,,,,never complained about shots at permit and juvinile tarpon --127-3- Any advice on areas that don't get hit too hard with major cold fronts at that time ??? I already have a trip to Abaco in May planned. I just think that Jan. is to iffy for a northern Bahamas trip. Oh ya, I would no doubt need a guide, however, if DIY opportunities exist, this is always a bonus (I just can never get enough of a good thing) :brow Thank you in advace.

Further south is better in Jan. St. John/Tortola, area is nice for the wife on the beach while you fish, and then take a boat/guide out for a day or two.

Abaco in May is fantastic!

yeah.... go WAY south.... try Belize. Caye Caulker
(funky-a-la-Key-West) or further south for better
fishing (e.g. Placencia). Lots of ecotourism for
the wife (rain forests, mayan ruins, etc).

southern bahamas fish great then, but entertainment
for significant other is limited. I'd suggest Big Inagua,
but after the girl sees the flamingos, there's not much
else to do there but fish and chase donkeys <hehehe>.

Post pix from when you've gone.

I am very lucky. All the Wife needs is a pretty beach, some sand, water, a book, and she is happy. We really are not that into the night-life or the shopping (thank God --127-3- ) So all I require is a nice beach, safe lodging and great fishing ;)

The perfect bonefishing vacation for january would be the Christmas Islands. But, thats very far and very expensive. I suggest going to Los Roques off the coast of Venezuela. It doesn't get hit very hard by fronts, and there are lots and lots of good sized bonefish, and even some REALLY big ones. Permit and tarpon are present, but they are more of an opportunistic catch and not a feature. Los Roques is very charming as well-no one wears shoes. It's often times refferred to as the Christmas Islands of the Carribbean. I'd strongly consider it if I were you, and it won't break the bank either. Shoot me an email at ghensley@usc.edu if you'd like, and I can hook you up with a great outfitter that will work for free and even provided detailed packets on what you need to bring, the type of fish/fishing, the history of the islands, and even suggest the most effective flies.

Don't overlook the Turks and Caicos! Fantastic bonefishing, great beaches, not much night life or shopping! Be warned it is pricey! Give Catch the Wave Charters a call and book Ed Missick!!!

The weather is perfect for the beach too. There are a variety of hotels available in Isla Verde and Condado areas only minutes from the marina where Caribbean Outfitters is located.
