Hey, I have been throwing my chest pack in a dry bag in the yak. Not the most convenient access, but if I use my kayak mostly for transportation it makes sense. Problem is the kayak is used less and less as only a transportation vehicle... Also, I find when I do jump out on bars I leave everything in the yak anyway...

So, thinking about a boat box that can hold a few large boxes, tools, and some spools of mono. Easily stored up front or behind the seat.

Seems like the marine dry boxes of appropriate size are the obvious choice. But, my obvious choice is often not the best choice so.....

Anybody have any kayak boat boxes (or alternative solution) they are particularly fond of?

Thanks in advance!

I use an insulated lunch box/bag
It hasn't been for a swim, but it stays fairly dry.

Cheap too.

I'd go with a Pelican-type case. You can take the foam out and have a durable watertight box.

I use a cheap Plano boat box that I store behind my Pungo seat...not the most convenient spot but works for me.....holds a good amount of lures, line, hooks and plastics...ordered from bass pro a few years ago for about 10 bucks

IMHO, one of the great joys /advantages of the yak is to keep it lite and simple.I tend to use the same (shoulder) bag that i use while wading. It generally has all i need and alows me flexability to yak or wade . The only difference is that I use a carabiner clip to lock the bag into the boat. Having said that, I have used big ziplocks and / or canoe dry bags to stow extra gear/ clothing etc in the stern /bow compartments.

I'm with WeeHooker - I use the classic crate, acquired from my favorite local gas station, and to that I belt in and on my gear. I use a multi-pocket, web-gear sort of thing from the folks in the midwest - I'm basically saying, makes sense to have all the gear you need for kayak vs. wading, because you'll end up doing both.

I screwed a Scotty rod holder onto the milk crate, initially because I couldn't commit to holes, eventually because it ended up being a great place for a spare rod.

Finally, found a great fold up stripping basket that is available in Maine - and it belts on to whatever you want it to, folds up small. I don't normally plug anyone, but this thing is awesome - http://hmhvises.com/linetender.html

i cut the top 4" or so off the top of a milk crate and slip it behind the seat of my (old style, bulkhead-less) pungo. tackle gets stored in interchangeable plano boxes; depending on what i am chasing. also used some zip-ties to secure a section of pvc to the inside of one of the crate's corners. good for holding a gaff or a spare rod. stow the crate in the back of the car when i'm done. makes for fast\cheap\organized loading for me....
