A week or so ago in Montauk, I fished a new Lamson Litespeed 3.5 hard on bass and albies. The reel had gotten only light use before that trip. In the second day of fishing, in the middle of what was a wonderful string of solid shots and hook-ups on nice-sized albies, I noticed the reel wobbling in the reel seat of the rod. At first I thought that the reel seat had come unwound a little bit, but on closer inspection it turned out that the part of the reel itself that locks into the reel seat had come loose. There are two little screws that had loosened. I didn't have a small enough screwdriver on me to tighten the screws, so the reel was essentially busted for the day. I've since tightened them but haven't fished the reel hard again to see if the problem willl recur.

Anyone else have this problem with a Lamson reel? If anyone has had this problem with this or another reel, I'd be interested in the solution...other than tightening. Maybe applying some sort of adhesive? Many thanks.

I like this reel in all other respects, but am somewhat disappointed that this would happen to a new piece of equipment. It wasn't bounced around or abused...it was strictly from hard-pulling fish. A nice problem to have, but still...

I had that happen to an old Orvis reel of mine. I took the old screws out, cleaned them up good (and the holes that the screws go into), and put blue Loctite on the screws before I installed the foot back onto the reel. After that, I never had a problem with the screws coming out.

Just make sure you use BLUE LOCTITE. If you use red, you won't be able to take the screws out again.

Well, I just happened to talk to someone yesterday who had a problem with his Lamson clutch. He said, since Lamson is out of business, he called Waterworks who took over Lamson and "they couldn't help him" . Could that be? Anyway someone fishing around him had an "extra clutch" and actually replaced his clutch with a new one. (Maybe a Lamson rep, I don't think so.) Does that mean that anyone with a Lamson reel has no recourse when his reel failed. I'd appreciate comments because I just couldn't give this fisherman a positive answer especially since he said he had tried to get his reel fixed but had no where to turn.

I've had a 3.5 for 4 years, and fish the snot out of it. However, I have had to send it back twice for sundry reasons, and they were very good about it. I did not have your problem, but they (Waterworks) will still take care of you. Before you do ANYTHING and void the warranty, call 800-435-9374. The address is:

Never had any problems so far with my Lamson Litespeed 4. It's always getting dunked in saltwater when I'm on the kayak. My Lamson LP4 I had to send in only 1 time to Waterworks. They fixed it fast with no questions asked.

Just talked to Waterworks-Lamson two days ago, and they are going to send me a new Velocity 3.5 because of the problem I've had with the one I have. She was very helpfull "Kimber".
Try them again with your litespeed. JOe.
