Wish this board was more utilized......I'd rather check it that the NE Salty one.....think it's because the trout guys are more reclusive......anyway.......what's the best way for a rookie to learn to tie trout nymphs and dries......book, video, web sites, self experimentation......any thoughts? Sped-

I got this great DVD Stillwater Flyfishing - Brian Chan - it shows how to tie a number of nymphs (very detailed) and a few dries and then how to fish them in stillwaters. The concepts in the DVD can be applied to many other dry and nymph flies.

I tied alot of nymphs by trial and error for years before they started to look like fly shop quality.

If you want a good web site on patterns and construction look at http://www.charliesflybox.com/ go to the flybox pages. He has the best collection of macro pics and detailed steps on the internet. Best part is that you can start now. If you need guidance on tools, materials and technique then depending on where you are there might be options like UFT, fly shop or evening school classes. Twenty plus years ago when I got into this there was no internet. I scrounged the local libraries, joined a couple clubs, bought a bunch of books, a few videos, subscribed to a couple magazines and so on. Technology has changed the game and made the information easier to come by. There are other outstanding WEB forums dedicated to fly fishing and tying that you can find using a search engine. Good luck!
