Fished from Watch Hill to the Narrow River in Narragansett. Started at sunrise and finished at 5:30pm. Saw one group of birds working at sunrise but they were way out and didn't stay very long. Didn't see any fish caught or bait. Everyone that I talked to nothing to report. I was a really beautiful day for early November, but the fish and birds weren't showing. I have a business trip to Mystic in 2 weeks. Perhaps I'll try that area then. I know that people are still reporting fish on the Cape but I think I heard the Fat Lady warming up her vocal cords.

A certain breachway had fish (small fish) from about an hour or two before sunset right until dusk. Nothing hot and heavy. But you could pick your way to a fair number of fish if you stayed around for a while. Also, from what I understand, there was similar action in the AM before I got there as well as decent sized (10lb) bluefish.
There are also some shad over in Point Judith (back in the pond). They're usually reliable this month with the latest I've ever caught them being in early December. The funny side note to hickory shad is that they stay so late in the year, but when you ask people in the area about them, they always say that 'they're sure they've pushed out by now'....LOL
However, to your point, when it becomes schoolie/twinkie time along the breachways, it's almost the end.

I found yesterday very disappointing as well, although I was relegated to fishing the middle of the day due to trailer light issues. I cruised the shoreline from Watch Hill to Quonny, then circled Fishers Island. Water temp was consistently a nice 56-57 degrees, weather was great, but not much action. I saw one flurry of bird activity along one of the beaches, but it was over by the time I got there. There were a ton of birds on the beach in places, but nothing ever happened while I waited. There were a few squadrons of boats chunking in predictable places, but no surface activity. Most of the light tackle fishermen I saw out there were fishing structure, a sign to me that they weren’t finding any blitzes either. That’s it for me in the salt this season. At least I didn’t freeze while getting the final skunking of the year.

thanx 4 the nice report on the home waters, almost made me glad i slept in. Sounds like we'll both be shore bound tossing til spring. Time to flush birds and think about hard water fishing.

I was probably fishing near you, since I was there at the same time. The adjacent beachfront had a short blitz of blues to 8 lbs or so in the afternoon, but that was all I saw all day long other than twinkie-ville in the breachways and few smalls in Narragansett after dark.
I'm still trying once or twice more, but I'm less optimistic about the run in RI than I was last week.

I also did the Saturday RI Trip. Took my Dad for the "full tour" from State Peir #5 to Napa Tree in about 4 hours. Saw nothing & heard about nothing caught. Had the feeling that things may pick up around dusk, but hit the road. Later that evening, my dad caught in one of his B-bay Haunts!
