Guys-
A gentleman would like to join our family fishing outings whose best health is behind him for this lifetime. The ease of entry/exit of a SOT make it the only consideration. He would join us only in sheltered, low current areas where he has assistance when he needs it. Primary (meaning initial - thanks for the catch Shaun) stability is way more important than speed.
I only have experience with the Tarpon 120. Based on little info I would guess the T140 would be a good choice.
All education/advice appreciated!
Thanks!

If initial stability is all you are after...Cobra Fish N Dive. Its a monster. http://www.cobrakayaks.com/kayaks/cobracat4.html
** I have very little experience with SOT's but had a very hard time flipping a Cobra.

The stability in the 120 and the 140 are almost the same and perfect for a newbie. There will be some wobble when you first get into it but that will go away within a first trip.
Like ruge said the FND and the Malibu Xfactor, eXtreme are the aircraft carriers with the FND way behind in the pack.
Depending on his height and weight any one of these kayaks are suitable for a newbie.

The hobie outbacks are pretty stable(and pretty expensive) and you can use your feet- but kind of like a floating bath tub.
I've seen someone fall out of it but it never flipped.
I have the 120-like you, no complaints- :)

Poor guy, I wonder who that was...
maybe he should get a sink.
I still feel bad that I couldn't help him find the rod that went over.

The T120 is a small boat, but if its only going to be used for the stated purpose then your elderly friend should be ok with it as long as you stay in very sheltered waters. If you plan on using the new SOT addition in more open waters with wind and heavier conditions then I suggest the T140. The Tarpon 140 is a very stable platform. Almost too stable... You literally have to stand-up and jump out of the darn thing in order to qualify it as a "roll over". The higher freeboard and wider beam of the T140 should be taken into consideration. If stability is the prime factor over speed then go with the 140.
Find a dealer and test the boats of your choice. Always keep the limitations of your freinds and family in mind- safety first.
