Hello

I will be visiting my dad in the Punta Gorda area over the Christmas holiday  , and intend to do a little fishing while I'm there. I'll be bringing a spinning rod.

I have access to a kayak based on Matlacha Pass, just north of the bridge, and would appreciate any tips on what lures to use or spots to try within paddling distance of the bridge, for that time of year.

I did the same thing last Thanksgiving, had a blast, and was moderately succesful, catching a couple of small redfish, and losing a couple of larger unidentifieds --124-3 , on a Johnson spoon. However, I'm not sure if the temps won't be too cold around Christmas for that type of lure.

Any advise someone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Chris

Read some of the articles in www.boatingandfishing.com between now & your vacation for information. The new artificial Tsunami baits are what seem to be on alot of fishing rods along with the D.O.A. series & the live shrimp on a jig rig.

I will not be able to give you an up to date report on the fishing because I am not starting up down there this year until Jan. 1st 2006'. I have had great success with the spoons on snook and reds, wherever you can find a deep pool in the bend of the small creeks or just outside the mouth of the small creeks that dump into the pass area. In addition there are small tarpon in that area and you can catch them on topwater plugs like the small spooks and unweighted soft plastics.

Well, I don't live in Florida, I'm a Texas boy. But I can tell you that fishing for specks and reds is the same there than it is here. And there is only one word you need to know: MirroLure-get as many different types and fish em, u wont be disappointed
