I got this little guy in the Stillwater today. I know it's some kind of salmonoid...but which kind? Thanks

Looks like a young brown to me. Tail doesn't posess the properties of the brookies. It's has too much of a fork.

here's a site I've had in favorites for a while....enjoy it :)

Thanks...I knew it wasn't a brookie because I had actually caught a brookie not more than 2 minutes before catching this fish. I guess my actual question was whether is was a brown trout parr or a salmon parr. It certainly looks like the picture of the young brown trout in the link you provided. Once again, thanks.

I was about 98 percent sure it was a brown.

But that distinct purple coloration on the gill plate still has me perplexed. It's beautiful.

Landlocked Atlantic salmon parr.

Agreed - that fork in the tail is too much for brown

Doubly agreed. :) Definitely a salmon par.

Most likely a salmon parr, but to be sure you would need to examine the Vomer/teeth .

...but an old-timer (I'm rapidly becoming one of those myself) once old me that salmon parr usually have just two or three spots on the gill plate, and sometimes just a single large spot.

That's true, to be 100% sure that's the only way to tell. A salmon parr and a young brown are almost identical otherwise.
