I am a native of Spain that moved to Florida about two and a half years ago. I took largemouth bass fishing on spinning tackle right away, then I went to baitcasting tackle. But, in a recent trip to the Keys, destiny caught up with me. I HEARD THE CALL OF THE SALT!...

Seriously, I would like to get started wading whatever flats I can find around here. I am looking for advice on an outfit that will allow me to do saltwater and largemouth bass alike. 8wt or 9wt? I do not know yet how much wind is too much for casting one weight or the other. Most of my fishing, for now anyways, will take place in the West Palm Beach area, maybe going South every now and then. I am hearing a lot about this reel, the Pflueger Supreme 1878. Is that the way I want to go?Flyfishing starting kits"

I am on a budget, but I don't believe in those "$60

Anyway, thank you in advance for your time.

Hi JEB, I used a Pflueger in fresh and salt water for over 30 years, before buying another reel and that old reel is now on the west coast catching steelhead, I think most reels wil last a long time, if they are taken care of. I haven't seen that new Fflueger but I here it's a good reel, I did stop at a few shops to see if they had one and I was told the same story if they put a reel on their shelf for under 200.00 bucks they can't sell it, that says a lot for todays youth. For a rod I would go with an 8wt, I think it's the best rod for salt and fresh water fishing, I would go with a fast action rod for throwing those fresh water poppers, St.Croix makes a good rod for the money. I would check out a few fly shops in your area. Don
