The wind just won't give us a break.

It has been blowing 15-20 from the NE all week. Today it backed off a few MPH and was more NNE. Seas have been running 4-6 but calmed down to 2-4 today. Not a problem in the Palmetto as the fishermen usually call it before the boat reaches its limits.

Reef fishing has been good for Grouper but the Yellowtail bite is not what it was before the water temps dropped below 82. Today's water was 78 on the reef and air was 80. Sky overcast. The full moon is still keeping things a little slow.

Tuna are out to the west. It is a long haul in rough seas and you need lots of bait to boot.

Bait has been tough to find. I have been trapping Grunts and Pinfish for my Grouper fishing but finding Pilchards is tough and takes some time. I have mostly been Grouper fishing so this is not a problem for me yet.

Most days have been catching 2-3 nice Grouper and a bunch of Yellowtail but not huge flags like a month ago. Grouper fishing is an acquired skill and most people lose 4 or 5 in the rocks before they get the hang of it.

Have seen a few Sails freejumping and hear on the radio of 1 or 2 caught everyday. Another few weeks and I will start fishing for Sails. Ballyhoo are around the reef and backcountry and easy to collect.

Patti Watts from Maryland caught this nice Red Grouper and a Group from Long Island picked up some Red Grouper and a just-over Yellowmouth Grouper.
