A buddy and I are thinking about taking a fly-fishing trip to the Cape in May. Don't really want to hire a guide. I've done some flyfishing on the Vineyard, but never the Cape. I've heard great things about the Brewster flats and areas around Chatham, but since I don't know the area, I wanted to find out if anyone had particular recommendations of beaches to walk and fish that time of year with a fly rod.
Thanks.

id say your best bet is to do a search for may and cape on the forums. i think may is a bit early for the bay side waters like brewster flats but southside would probably at least have alot of schoolies. the pond outlets in falmouth or the light house area in chatham would be a start. if the shuttles to monomoy are running, that may be worth a shot as well. depends on the season when the fish arrive though. good luck.

Herring runs and the water they dump into will be your best bet in May. The Cape has a ton of them and with the ban on Herring, more bait should bring in more fish. I agree that the south side is a good bet.
Late May is best for May. Early May can be effected by the Herring schedule for that season. I do a trip each Memorial Day weekend in Chatham, along with many other trips in May and early June. It'll be mostly smaller Bass, but I did land a few fish pushing 40 inches during last years trip. A short car ride to several south side spots can be well worth it too.
It's no secret where to fish in Chatham. Any beach or area you can access water is good. Moving water/tide change is best. Time of day is not too important that time of year. Send me a PM and I'd be happy to point you in right direction.
