i spent 10 days on my own on ambergris.
i'd stay at coral bay villas in san jose. south of town. best value i could see.
small kitchen.easy walk into town on the beach.
rent a cart, i'd stay with a gas propelled, electrical systems can short out going through puddles if it's rained.
head north above the ferry, two to three miles start hiking the beach.
good wadeable flats are very limited, lots of deep mud be carefull.the bones are there.
i would tie "eyeless" flys with weed guards. lots of grass.
if you want to be guided for a couple of days, contact poncho through victoria house he'll pick you up at your dock no matter where you are staying.i thought he was good.half day is plenty of water time especially if the wind picks up.
tell him or any of the guides that you aren't interested in fishing the " cloudy
water",(muds). there is plenty of good sight fishing to be had.don't forget baby tarpon there are some nice flats south of san pedro reached by boat.ask.
have fun.
