Puerta Vallarta Inshore

any one have any insight on the inshore fishig in Puerta Vallarta? Via the Fly? Guides etc? I am headed there is a few days, it looks like like offshore well outside the bay (30+ miles) is the way to go to. I am more interested in lght tacke/in shore adventures.

Any insight?

Well, since Puerto Vallarta is a Pacific destination, there is going to be a good number of inshore fish to choose from. Mainly, inshore fly targets will be roosterfish, pargo, jacks, and sierra mackeral. All of these will provide alot of fun for a flyfisherman. I've only been to PV once, so I'm no expert on guides. I can tell you though to research them fully, cause I have been with some pretty crappy ones. Don't go with the ones the hotels reccommend, because they are just catering to the locals who aren't out to help you catch fish...they just want your money. Google some professional guides in the PV area and ask around at fly shops-that should give you a better idea. But do not close off the possibility of going offshore for fly fishing, because PV has alot of good offshore tuna and dorado fishing with some decent billfish thrown into the mix. Drop an e-mail to Phil in PV, http://vallartafish.8m.com/page13.html, I've fished with him a couple of times, quite the character. Try & ignore the cheesy music or turn your speakers off, you have been warned ! He can put you in touch with offshore guys or do the inshore or surf thing. Having said that, using a fly rod in the surf down there is always a challenge due to the distance you need but he has experience with it.

Juanito you fish steelhead much in your neck of the woods? If I could have my way I rather be headed to Skeena over PV.

mothers best from pv makes best local fly. often tied for fisherman and not fish. the lil gold and sticky red hairs make it real fishy. dont forget to lick your fingers when done tying it. i like the extended body comparapun myself! have a great trip and think about what materials we can use to tie for pulaski when you get back. im in for the following weekend. i think pats gonna be busy boiling water and getting rags for tori's b-day next day or so.

For anyone that may be looking for information on Puerta Vallarta this guy, captain Josh, seems like a good person to fish with. He is 28 and seems like a complete NUT, and very knowledgeable. I am going to call him and some other people I have found from this search.
