If you have the luxury of waiting a bit, there will be a few Marlins on E-Bay. I see them there regularly (just key in Billy Pate as a category). What I have noticed is that some sellers obviously don't know much about fly reels in general and can't seem to tell whether the thing is right hand or left hand drive. I've even seen them listed as direct drive when the photo shows a slip clutch model and vice versa. Good Luck. Pates are absolutely bullet proof, new or used. When I came back to guiding about ten years ago the first thing I did was pick up a Tarpon and a Bonefish reel for my 12 and 10wt rods. I have many other fly reels but none as solid and reliable... Not to mention that I could sell them at any time for slightly more than I paid for them...

I have a Pate Marlin, Tarpon and a Bonefish. I have bought and sold every brand of reel over the years but never sold a Pate after buying it. I bought an Abel. It was good but I ended up selling it..same with Tibor, Penn, Lamson, but always kept the Pates cause I liked em so much.
