Hi,

We're off to Eleuthera/Bahamas via Ft. Lauderdale in April 2006 and besides shopping our credit cards into pieces we would like to fish in the area when coming from the islands and staying for two days in town. is there any DIY fishing to be had??

Many thanks for any information!!

Are you coming in by boat or plane, what type of fishing would you be looking for. There are some opportunities from land but they are limited.

Hi Sam,
Many thanks for your kind reply.
We're coming back by plane and will stay for two more nights at one of the Sheratons on the beach. Since the whole trip was family-vacation oriented, we (a buddy and myself) would like to see what the DIY fishing is like over there (any fly fishing, they say there's tarpon to be found in the "lagoons", but we'll settle for anything willing to eat our flies). If we had the funds left we would get us a guide for a half day of fishing, but the budget will be spent by then (since we have a guide for a few days on the island). What do you suggest ??

Hi,

I just spent a weekend fishing around Ft. Lauderdale. There are plenty of DIY opportunties in my opinion. We took a trip to a beach (Boca Raton - 20 minutes N of Ft. Lauderdale) one day and caught a few jacks and some nice bluefish.

Also, I heard that there are largemouth bass in quite a few of the small ponds on the sides of the roads.

I actually spent some time at one of those Sheratons as well (the one with the Shula's steakhouse -- great restaurant). The beach across the street is suppose to have some opportunity. I heard there were a number of fishing piers which might be interesting to explore if you guys decide to wade around it so you have room for the backcast...

Hello DBLHL
The Beach where you are staying is good you will not be able to fish during Bathing hours unless you find and area that does not have life gaurds.
There has been many fish running the shoreline, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Snook---> "will be out of season on Dec 15" but they are still fun to catch, Sharks, Pompano and even Permit and numerous other Pan fish on the bottom.

There are other areas close by as well, Inlets with Jettys, Piers and many inland Bridges will all produce fish at this time of year, this is our season for migratory fish so you have a south run happenning.

I have alot of info on different Location and how to catch the fish in South Florida in my personal site Boatless Fishing (http://www.boatlessfishing.com) , take a look and you can reach me through my site.

I hope i can help so you can make the best of your 2 days, the Boatless Fisherman Tom
