Slappy

Have you noticed that the striper fishing has slowed a bit in the last couple months? I haven't. ;)
It was so calm tonight, I had to do the afterwork splash. I scraped as much snow as I could off the yak before I loaded it on the car and headed out about 8pm. Perfect night, just cold enough for a little skim ice to start forming.
I paddled out to a spot and started casting, first fish came about three casts in. Then I found them clinging to the bottom, not very active fish, but catchable. (see pic) Bottom bouncing the 9" black sluggo was the ticket to some good action and a couple (barely) legal size fish. The bite slowed down and my rod and boat were covered with ice. Time to go. All in all a surprisingly good bite!
Maybe the thing about the pre-storm bite is true. It may be tough to get out many more times this season.
Over? over?...
