Ok, I'm not a saltwater fly fisherman. I fly fish for steelhead in one of the great lakes tribs. I mostly dead drift flies and eggs. I put trout attractant on whatever I use before I let it fly. I think It's making the fish bump into me. The last two times I've been fishing I've been smashed into buy a fish. The first was after the guy next to me released a big male. It was a little muddy. I was a few yards away talking to the guy when he was releasing it. It sat in the water for about 15 seconds before it swam full speed into my leg. The guy just looked at me. I couldn't get out of the way. The thing was fast. The time after that it was even muddier. Me and one other guy far up the bank wern't catching anything. I was wading as deep as I could in my hip waders. Fishing in my favorite hole. And smash something wails me in the leg. I kind of screamed like a little girl and I know the other guy heard me. While I'm trying to get my footing back I see the fish right in front of me dissapear into the darkness. My feet got soaked and its to cold to fish this time of year in Buffalo with wet feet. Has anybody else ever been hit with a fish or had some wierd thing happen to them? I'd like to hear.

No, and I am really not a big believer in fish attractant unless it comes to primary bottom feeders.
I have had trout stack up behind me when fishing in current though, and it's very difficult to get off a good drift when they are that close :)
I once had my leg humped by a dogfish. Just kidding.

If the steelies were "running" then I think they are just in "go" mode and are used to bumping into stuff, bouncing off rocks, etc. on their way upstream. I was fishing in the mouth of a Lake Erie trib last week where the water coming out was chocolate milk. I had fish bouncing off all morning. But, it made for some nice short casts ;)
Good Luck-

Half asleep and wading at O-dark-thirty in Nantucket's Polpis Harbor, I had a striper force it's way between my knees. Woke me up fast.

When I started fishing at night a few years ago in the spring at 3 Mile Harbor I had something climb on my foot. I was spooked before, so I was out of the water in no time.
Looking around with a flash light I figured out it was a horseshoe crab trying to hump my foot.

My father- in- law a few years ago was fishing for trout on the Beaverkill, and with a beetle pattern managed to hook a beaver (or other small water- going mammal). He was so surprised when the thing swam at him that he fell over. Since then whenever he shows up at the Roscoe Orvis store they warn him that the squirrels are very active this time of year...

Several years ago I was fishing with a couple of good freinds at the Bug Light on Sandy Hook. It was past sunset and we were in for a long, slow night.
Tommy and Pauly were to my left and I heard Tommy start screaming at the top of his lungs, "Pauly! Jeffy! There's a $!&*@! DOG in the water and its chasing me!!! HELP!!!" As it turned out the dog was in fact a Harbor Seal that found Tommy too charming to pass up. I never saw a 6'5" 250 pound Polish-American house painter move so fast in my entire life! --125-3

We used to wade fish for tarpon at night under bridges in Miami. It was dark and quiet with a stiff current. We'd stand in knee deep water right at the edge of a decent drop off. And if you ask me tarpon are scary during the day and fishing them at night - half the time you have shark on the brain. One time I had an octopus suddenly latch onto my foot. When you are only wearing Tevas you jump AND scream like a girl. Another time I had a big Triggerfish bite the end of my big toe really hard. that fish is equipped to eat coral. Snagged a manatee once. felt like a huge dip**** that night.
