I caught (and released) a few brookies and a brown a few weeks ago. I reckon they're in pretty good shape - the temps got down fairly low, but they're back up quite a bit from the rain yesterday... Wooly buggers are your best bet by a long shot.

What are you throwing at them? Winter is nymph fishing time...
Throwin' the bead head olive bugger and the hare's ear bead head and non bead head......sound about right?? I read the responses to the other post looking for winter help....so I've been reminded to get it deep and slow.......Sped

Sped,
You need another hobby. Dead of winter. If you are around the Quinnie, might I recommend some skiing at Wa-wa-a-ahhh-chusett.
Also water is currently wicked high.
Patience patience....
I've got the Century pass at Wachusett.....but the conditions are horrible for that too......maybe I'll take a ride to the Lower 40....and tie some more buggers too...Sped

try the virtual FF game real world fly fishing. turn the heat down in your den, couple shots of yager, and start the ol desktop up. almost better than the real thing. woolys work well in the virtual trout brook as well. especially in that pool above the bridge and waterrfall. man you dont need a hobby. you need to hook a steelhead. brings whole new illumination to winter trout fishing. happy new year from a fellow trout bum
I've caught a steelhead.....14 pounder.....but in the Siletz River on Oregon.....always though about the NY chrome scene........maybe I should check it out.......do you have to pay to use the flyfishing game on the computer?? Sped

pishtech is co that makes real world ff. pretty fun game, especially in cheat mode with 26 inch fish trying to spool your 5w. 20 bucks buys you the cd.
NY steelhead are more plentiful and sometimes great size, especially in ontario tribs. nothing beats satisfaction of sea run steel in west, but that takes a lot of trip funds. im talking bout 5 hour drive to catch fresh fish. not to shabby at all.
Both the fly sim and the chrome hunting sound like a good time .......the NY trip sounds like it could make for an interesting weekend jaunt....Sped
