I'm going to be replacing my floating lines this winter. Anyone have any experience with the Airflow Forty Plus lines?

No.....But I had some excellent luck with the" INTERMEDIATE- CLEAR". It has gone beyond my expectations + the 5yr. "no-crack" warranty! --125-3 . Still has not started cracking yet! It's best line I have ever used compared to "Orvis",which I think is junk!

That's encouraging to hear.... Lines being replaced are all Orvis.
What Markymark said.
A friend gave me an Airflo int line probably 6 years ago. It was the wrong weight for his rod. I'm still fishing it. There's not a things wrong with it, and I'm still waiting for it to crack as well.
It's a great line.

I have 4 Airflow intermediates that I fish every year. At least one of them dates back to the fall of 1996, which I think was the first year they came out. My favorite lines to use. No problems at all, and I was/am very skeptical due to the Sue Burgess fiasco that proceeded their development.

The only "small" problem I have had is,once it starts to "tangle" or" twist" is from the bluefish + stripers in shallow water at South Beach(Chatham). What I do after a fish or two, remove the fly, cast the line out, reel it back,re-tie the fly and start over. That way it will make it relax and be ready for the BIG striper that will come by. Other than that, I still like the line, regardless what anyone else says.I still cannot believe ,after all these years ...NO CRACKS!

Airflo does not make a floating 40+ saltwater line. I have used their intermediate 40+ in 10 wt on a 10 wt rod and it is but far the best day-to-day line that I have used over varied fishing conditions. Throws anything from surf candies to flatwings :-% well. For a floater, I plan to take a look at the Rio Outbound this year.

Apparently they do. Found this on Cabela's site....

My bad. That's freshwater.... But with that core, I wonder how much memory it really has...

Right on Plugman! But on second or third rumination there may be no difference between the FW and SW versions except that they only go to 9 wt in the FW floater. I always wondered what the true differences were betweeen FW and SW lines except length in some cases. Possibly fewer micro baloons in the SW version. Maybe a splash of extra coating :-% If there were fish in the Great Salt Lake, micro baloon companies would be out of business :brow

I too am a big fan of Airflo clear intermediate. I have had
three AirFlo fast-sinking lines crack within 2 years (all
happily replaced). I've had no failures of their clear
intermediate (and fish it esp. hard early- and late-sea-
sone when the water temps dip and all other lines get
kinkier than my third wife _ever_ did! <hehehe>
But I thought the original question was for floating lines,
n'est pas?
I use Orvis Wonderline in the warm water, and the heat
of mid-summer on the Vineyard. They only get about
30-40 days of fishing per year, but have held up well (two
three years old, one mebbe five!). They cast well, and
slide through the guides better than most of the other
floating lines I've tossed.
I didn't like the Sci Angler Mastery tarpon line... it had a lot
of memory and tended to tangle at the drop of a hat.
I've used the Wulff triangle taper, and thought it so-so. It
didn't get stiff or have memory in cold water, but it didn't
seem to shoot as well as other lines (9# line on a fast 8#
rod).
Lastly, I tried the Rio Tarpon taper on a loaner rod. I'm not
sure I liked the double-body idea, and had trouble turning
flies on long casts in light/moderate winds. It might have
been the rod (mod/fast action), it might have been the
line, but in all fairness it was probably me: I didn't think the
line 'punched' into the wind like the wonderline<s>.
Hope this helps... let us know what you end up with and
how it performs!

I'm a big fan of the Air-Flo "Coldwater" Intermediate, which I use on an 8 wt. I tried the 40+ line, since I'd heard to throws a mile, but I found it way too front-heavy....the 9 wt made my Xi2 9 wt. cast like a wet noodle.
