Looking for info re: AuSable, NY best time of year. Currently thinking about late August, but concerned about low water & high temperatures.
What is best time? How about Sept.?
Thanks

Go on line and check out the Hudson River Fishing Report weekly columns from Nor'east Saltwater Magazine. www.noreast.com.

Go to the archives for the past three years and check the months you are interested in.

Kevin Henebry runs a fly shop in Wilmington, NY and the Ausable River runs right by his front door!If you get a chance to go to the FFShow in Somerset theis weekend there should be two or three Ausable River fishing guides in residenct. Check the exhibitor lists for the show at www.flyfishingshows.com

The Ausable has two branches and is a great fishery!

Go on line and google the Ausable River Flyfishing - it should give you several sites that will let you dial in the specifics.

Good luck!

You will want to fish the West branch in the Summer. There is usually an evening hatch! Walk to avoid crowds.
Good Luck

Agree with above. spinner hatch at sunset best on west branch. slow sipping in long placid runs with laminar flow. talk to jerry at hungry trout in wilmington area. great place to stay and even better to eat. great guides in mike, gordy and rachel, all characters and even some ff tourney experience. private water you can fish on 'the miracle mile' when you stay at hungry trout. they have a pool on lowest part of beat says to be about 12-15 ft deep. most record browns for that river come out of that hole with a sink tip black bugger. My all time favorite double secret honey hole is just another 1/4 mile down. evening dry fly nirvana. even proposed to my fiance on that very spot as she landed her first fly caught trout ever: upstream dry fly of course! that was a memorable time.

agree september better than august, even for terrestials. consider spring hex, march brown time as well in may! Big bugs on water mean great nights with 8pm sunsets!

great water check it out!

ps send the non angling misses shopping at lake placid, just dont leave her alone too long with the credit card...
